Everything’s coming up roses for Professor Emmeline Prather. Then the festival surrounding the exhibit of Shakespeare’s First Folio opens, bringing with it a tempest more dramatic than the bard’s. A grad student contends Shakespeare isn’t Shakespeare, setting off an acrid debate among scholars. But were they upset enough to kill him? That’s what Em must find out when the student is discovered dead in Shakespeare’s Garden, his macabre pose inspired by a scene from Hamlet.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I am wondering why I have missed out, this was a total page turner and guessing the guilty party was not on the cards!
Copper Bluff is celebrating everything Shakespeare, they are displaying a rare folio of the Bard's works, the college theatre is putting on Hamlet, they are opening a Shakespeare inspired garden and the also plan to have talks by various people. It is during the latter that things start to unravel, a PhD student puts the cat among the pigeons by saying he has proof that Shakespeare was NOT the author of the plays and sonnets but a nobleman by the name of Edward de Vere is. If he is proven correct then a couple of the visiting scholars will suddenly find their life's work is null and void. Emmeline though doesn't think this could lead to murder, however the young man (who also is playing the part of Hamlet) is found well and truly dead the next day, and his body has been staged as though it is in the play.
Now someone (the killer) is taunting Emmeline with clues and misdirections, and then one of the visiting scholars ends up in hospital, Emmeline with help from her boyfriend Lenny and other members of staff need to find out the truth and make sure this twisted killer is put away for good.
