Anastasia Pollack’s son Alex is dating Sophie Lambert, the new kid in town. For their community service project, the high school seniors have chosen to raise money for the county food bank. Anastasia taps her craft industry contacts to donate materials for the students to make Christmas ornaments they’ll sell at the town’s annual Holiday Crafts Fair.
At the fair Anastasia meets Sophie’s father, Shane Lambert, who strikes her as a man with secrets. She also notices a woman eavesdropping on their conversation. Later that evening when the woman turns up dead, Sophie’s father is arrested for her murder.
Alex and Sophie beg Anastasia to find the real killer, but Anastasia has had her fill of dead bodies. She’s also not convinced of Shane’s innocence. Besides, she’s promised younger son Nick she’ll stop risking her life. But how can she say no to Alex?
This is a series I have come late to, and I wonder why I haven't read any before! This is a Tour de Force of a Murder/Mystery – with some added humour as well (and I will be adding the previous books to my reading list pretty sharpish!)
Anastasia is recovering from her previous adventures (which involves a strapped up wrist, pain killers and antibiotics!), her Mother-in-Law is causing problems, her Mother is on the look out for another husband, her boyfriend is working hard and her boys are at school. Her eldest son (Alex) has a new girlfriend (Sophie) and Anastasia along with Zach get to meet him at the school craft fair, Shane Lambert (Sophie's father) has offered to match the money raised by the 17 year olds (they made Christmas ornaments) so that the local food bank gets a decent amount of money for the Winter season (which is well and truly starting to arrive). The problem is a few days later Shane is arrested for murder, Sophie is devastated and Alex wants Anastasia to prove his innocence, the only thing is she has promised her younger son, Nick, that she won't get involved in any more snooping. Now she needs to decide what to do and quickly!
An Interview With A Character
What is your full name?
Anastasia Pollack
What is your Profession?
I’m the crafts editor for American Woman, a monthly women’s magazine sold at supermarket checkout lines.
What is your current favourite book or movie?
The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman
What is your go to comfort book or movie?
It’s a toss-up between Casablanca and Shakespeare in Love. I have so little free time that I never re-read books. My TBR pile is far too high.
If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book?
Tina Fey. In their starred review of my debut, Publishers Weekly said I was “as droll as Tina Fey’s Liz Lemon.” So I think it would be only fair for Tina to play me in a movie—which I hope would be so successful that it would turn into a series of movies. I could use the money to help dig myself out of the financial mess my author created for me.
What is your ideal evening?
Any in which my communist mother-in-law is out of the house, and my author hasn’t dropped a dead body at my feet.
