It's Oktoberfest in Pittsburgh, and brewpub owner Maxine "Max" O'Hara is prepping for a busy month at the Allegheny Brew House. To create the perfect atmosphere for the boozy celebration, Max hires an oompah band. But when one of the members from the band turns up dead, it's up to Max to solve the murder before the festivities are ruined.
Adding to the brewing trouble, Candy, Max's friend, is acting suspicious… Secrets from her past are fermenting under the surface, and Max must uncover the truth to prove her friend's innocence. To make matters worse, Jake's snooty ex-fiancee shows up in town for an art gallery opening, and she'll be nothing but a barrel of trouble for Max.
What a brilliant third outing for Max and her friends!
This time Max (and her staff including her chef boyfriend Jake) and her friends are getting ready to set up their initial Oktoberfest and one thing they are trying to track down an Oompah band, and they think they have found one – so Max and her girlfriends head off to hear them and confirm the booking. Whilst they are discussing this one of the band claims to know Candy which she vehemently denies – but she is obviously upset and heads out. Max ends up going to speak with one of the band members, only to find Candy rifling through his house! and at the next meeting Max, Jake and Candy find him dead. Now with Candy having to tell her friends (and the police) about her very interesting past and why she is avoiding the band member that claims to know her they want to find out who would kill a musician and artist.
Oh and speaking of art a new gallery has opened (owned by a new neighbour of Max's parents) and at the opening party there is unpleasantness in the form of Victoria – Jake's ex fiancee, now Victoria is determined to get Jake back and seems to stop at nothing to achieve this!
