Christmas Cupcakes and a Caper
Christmas Cupcakes and a Caper

It’s all candy cane cupcakes and peppermint coffee until you find a dead elf on your doorstep.

Only the elf wasn’t a real elf, because elves don’t actually exist – not even at Christmas time. A college student dressed like an elf decided taking a nap on the stoop of Callie's Cakes in sub-zero winter temps was a good idea. It wasn’t. Anna, the pink-haired baker extraordinaire, is convinced the student’s death was not an accident. She drags Callie and Kristie along with her as she attempts to discover who killed the elf … um… student.

Will the gals of Callie’s Cakes find the killer before Christmas is ruined?

Cupcakes not included, although you’ll find recipes for all the delicious Christmas cupcakes Anna bakes.

It is always fun to revisit with Callie and her friends, and as an additional bonus these a quick reads that are ideal for a commute or whilst waiting for an appointment!

Callie is in need of comfort in the form of Cupcakes, her boyfriend Ben (the Detective) has become secretive and seems to be withdrawing, Callie is scared that he is bored with her and about to dump her (and just before Christmas!) so her friends and co-workers, Anna the Cupcake Baker and Kristie the Barista (and founder of a local Youth Centre) have said they will set up a sting and find out what is going on.  Unfortunately before all this can come to pass the ladies of Callie's Cupcake discover a dead Elf outside their bakery! and all three of them recognise him, Callie because he has been in some of her German lectures at the local University, Kristie because he was an Intern at the Youth Centre and Anna because he came regularly to buy a cupcake.

At the Memorial service at the University the three friends overhear a conversation which indicates that this Elf was more on Santa's naughty list than nice and as they have found out that he was murdered and dumped on their doorstep the three of them are determined to find out who snuffed the Elf and why.

An Interview With A Character

What is your full name?

Callie Muller

What is your Profession?

I own a cupcake bakery, Callie’s Cakes, together with my best friend Anna. I’m also an adjunct professor of German literature at the local college. It may sound like an odd combination, but it works for me.

What is your current favourite book or movie?

Since it’s Christmas time, I’m re-watching my favorite holiday movies. One of my favorites is Alles Ist Liebe. It’s a German Christmas movie. It’s cute and hilarious. I must have seen it twenty times already.

What is your go to comfort book or movie?

I read a ton of German literature for my work as a professor of German literature. So when it comes to comfort books, I tend to stay away from anything German. If I’m in desperate need of comfort, I’ll probably grab Little Woman. I think I’ve read it a dozen times already, but the story of the March sisters always pulls me in.

If someone was to play you in a movie who would it be? OR what would be the character you would want to be in a book?

Can I say Zooey Deschanel even though she’s entirely too thin and pretty to be me? In addition to adding some weight, she’ll need to wear those nerdy glasses she’s been seen with.

What is your ideal evening?

I love snuggling up to my boyfriend Ben on the couch while watching a movie and snacking on cupcakes from the bakery. Although Ben’s been acting weird lately and hasn’t had much time for me. I’m not sure what’s going on with him, but I don’t like it.
