Kathleen is excited to meet three old pals of her beau, Detective Marcus Gordon, while they visit charming Mayville Heights on business. But the reunion is cut short when one of the friends is killed—and the evidence points towards Marcus as the murderer.
 
Though it seems she doesn’t know all of Marcus’s secrets, Kathleen is sure he’s no killer. With his suspect status sidelining him from investigating the case, it’s up to Kathleen and her feline partners-in-crime to find whoever is framing Marcus—and make sure the good detective hasn’t found his last clue.

Things they are a-changing (maybe) in Mayville Heights, a company has bought a tranche of land and plans to erect a hotel there, they are selling it to Mayville as bringing tourists and therefore money, into town, but the battle lines have been drawn with some people thinking this is a great opportunity and others thinking it is the thin end of the wedge to Mayville become a Clone town.  When Kathleen and Marcus head off to eat at Eric's diner they run into a group of three who are here to find out if there is anyway to stop the development, and it also appears they are college friends of Marcus's, two of them (Dani and John) are all friendly, Travis has a beef with Marcus and keeps sniping, Kathleen later finds out that Travis and Dani had been a couple and supposedly Marcus had an affair with her and broke it up.

This should have been the end of it, after all Marcus and Kathleen are well and truly an item, but then Dani ends up dead, murdered!, and all signs seem to be pointing to Marcus as the killer, now he is suspended on full pay, his Detective partner Hope has been taken off the case and so it seems up to Kathleen (with help from friends and of course two magical cats!) to find out the truth so that Marcus doesn't spend the rest of his life in solitary prison!
