Hazards in Hampshire
Hazards in Hampshire

Claire Barclay, responding to an invitation to tea, does not expect to find her hostess murdered and herself the chief suspect. It is all overwhelming—a new house, a new village, new friends and now murder. She will cope, she always copes, but it won’t be easy.

What a brilliant start to a new series with a wonderful cast of characters that I want to find out more about!

Claire Barclay is British born and bred but has spent a lot of her life travelling the world as a tour guide (and the company she works for was great about letting her do a tour in the UK once or twice a year so she could keep her British citizenship), upon the death of her stepfather she has inherited his estate, the letter that came with the information stated that as he had given lots of money to his two sons and Claire's younger sister (whilst she was in training to be a barrister) and Claire had nothing from him this was all for her and she is NOT to hand any over to his overly greedy sons! After buying a cottage in Hampshire, and being given a dog by her sister, she starts to settle in, even so she is surprised to get an invitation to afternoon tea, she is even MORE surprised to find her hostess dead!

Now Claire needs to cope with possibly being a suspect in murder, she has a tour group to deal with (luckily all four are mystery lovers, friends and great to get on with!), one of her step brothers turning up demanding she hand the money, or at least most of it, over, oh and her increasing attraction to the Detective in charge of the case.  So now she needs to channel her inner Agatha Christie before her new life in Hampshire turns out to be very short lived!

An Interview With A Character

What is your full name?

Claire Barclay

What is your Profession?

Tour Guide for those who want to visit the sites of British mystery writers.

What is your current favourite book or movie?

That is almost impossible to answer.  Perhaps, the book I’m writing now, “Perils in Yorkshire” Book III in the series because it still has great possibilities.

If someone was to play you in a movie, who would it be?

Someone who can wear glasses and look good.

Or what would be the character you’d want to be in your current favourite book?

I’d love to be Phryne Fisher in Kerry Greenwood’s series just to have her wardrobe.

What is your go to comfort book or movie?

Nora Roberts’ Wedding series because it’s a happy-ever-after book with great dialogue and interesting characters.

What is your ideal evening?

It depends on how I’m feeling. Sometimes, it’s my dog, a book, a fire in the fireplace, and lots of chocolate.

Sometimes, it’s lots of friends, a crowded restaurant and lots of laughter.

Sometimes, it’s an intimate conversation with a great friend.
