If it weren’t for the fact that she’s replacing a dead man, Kelly Jackson would love her new job managing the Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast on the coast of Northern California. But Bob Phillips did plunge off the cliff to his death…and Kelly’s starting to think it may not have been an accident. Bob’s retired friends—The “Silver Sentinels”—are also on the case, especially when Kelly is attacked…and another body turns up. Kelly has her hands full with overseeing the B&B’s annual Taste of Chocolate and Wine Festival, but she’s also closing in on the killer…who’s ready to send Kelly on her own permanent vacation…
Phew! what a humdinger of a first book in a series!
Kelly Jackson is a temporary manager for a chain of hotels and B & B's (all slightly quirky and allowed to keep their own character … provided they always have excellent coffee!), for her latest job she has been sent to Redwood Cove as the long term manager (Bob Phillips) had fallen from the cliff top and died, which is sad but as Kelly knows accidents do happen. Then she meets Bob's long term friends, a group of senior citizens who call themselves the Silver Sentinels (and they have had some success such as breaking a pick-pocketing spree up), they claim that Bob was murdered, and whilst she takes their insistence with a very large pinch of salt (and the local Sheriff isn't even prepared to consider the idea) she comes around to their way of thinking when she is attacked. That would be bad enough but when someone she has come to care for even in the short time she has been there is also attacked, then there is a robbery and then another death Kelly well and truly joins forces with the Silver Sentinels to make sure that whoever is behind all this doesn't send someone else on a one way trip!
