A Murder for the Books

Fleeing a disastrous love affair, university librarian Amy Webber moves in with her aunt in a quiet, historic mountain town in Virginia. She quickly busies herself with managing a charming public library that requires all her attention with its severe lack of funds and overabundance of eccentric patrons. The last thing she needs is a new, available neighbor whose charm lures her into trouble.

Dancer-turned-teacher and choreographer Richard Muir inherited the farmhouse next door from his great-uncle, Paul Dassin. But town folklore claims the house’s original owner was poisoned by his wife, who was an outsider. It quickly became water under the bridge, until she vanished after her sensational 1925 murder trial. Determined to clear the name of the woman his great-uncle loved, Richard implores Amy to help him investigate the case. Amy is skeptical until their research raises questions about the culpability of the town’s leading families… including her own.

When inexplicable murders plunge the quiet town into chaos, Amy and Richard must crack open the books to reveal a cruel conspiracy and lay a turbulent past to rest in A Murder for the Books, the first installment of Victoria Gilbert’s Blue Ridge Library mysteries.

Amy left her job as a University librarian when she discovered her boyfriend playing around with a violinist instead of the piano keys! That wouldn't have been too bad but when she made a scene and threw a glass of champagne at him, it missed and hit the Dean of the University instead, (she probably would still have kept her job due to the circumstances but she was too embarrassed!), she now runs the local library in her Aunt's town and helps her Aunt out as well.

When her very attractive neighbour (Richard) arrives asking to use the archives for some family history research Amy is happy to help, when they get to the archive though they discover the body of a previous volunteer helper well and truly dead on the archive floor.  Richard and Amy start working together to try and find out what happened, was it something to do with the historical death that Richard is looking at? Oh and what is happening with the Mayor, a local dentist and one of Amy's relatives?

Can they keep the library going, stop a new development being built and find out about various family histories – all before they end up in trouble?
