On a French golf course, a millionaire is found stabbed in the back… An urgent cry for help brings Poirot to France. But he arrives too late to save his client, whose brutally stabbed body now lies face downwards in a shallow grave on a golf course. But why is the dead man wearing his son's overcoat? And who was the impassioned love-letter in the pocket for? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by the discovery of a second, identically murdered corpse…
""Hell", said the Duchess" – so opens the 2nd Poirot adventure/investigation, we have Hastings again as Poirot's narrator come sidekick, this time Hastings has been away and on his return finds Hercule with a task to stop a murder, back to France it is for both of them …. only to discover the client is dead, stabbed and the whole scenario seems absurd. We have a French Police Inspector by the name of Giraud (aka the Human Foxhound!) who is here, there and everywhere looking for clues to fit his idea of the murderer (and objecting nay sneering at Hercules for his old fashioned ways). Halfway through the investigation another body is discovered and suddenly Hercules is well and truly on the case (oh just spending a little time to ensure that two couples have a happy ever after!)
